Gourmet Foods and Cooking at Home
Gourmet foods and cooking at home are not always linked together. When you think of gourmet foods, you may think about expensive restaurants with elaborate settings. There may be a lovely table and soft music. Yet, this is not all there is to gourmet foods.
Actually, any food that is of high quality and prepared well can be considered to be a gourmet food. You can buy special foods at the grocery store and prepare them for meals. However, you may also use any high quality foods.
Fresh Ingredients
Any meal can be a gourmet meal if you take the time to use fresh ingredients. For example, you should not use things like canned soup. For one reason, they contain a lot of salt. Another reason is the taste.
Time
It takes longer to fix gourmet meals. This is due to not using things that are “ready to eat”. However, your family will notice the difference in the taste.
Examples
You can stick a frozen pie in the oven and it will not be gourmet. If you use already made crust, it is not the same thing, either. You will need to make a pie from scratch.
When you do, use the best flour, not what it on sale. The same goes for the filling. You should not use canned filling and expect people to think it is gourmet. Sorry, but many generic ingredients may not of high enough quality. You may need to spend the extra money on brand name items.
